Archie McDougle dreamed of becoming a famous and prosperous PI. He never thought of the danger that came with the job though. Archie seems to be somewhat unprepared for investigative work, well, perhaps a bit more than somewhat. At times, he seems to be a bit preoccupied with good food, expensive wine, exotic cigars and beautiful women, instead of clues. Sometimes Archie even seems to have a deficit in those gray cells used so ably by Hercule Poirot, yet he is lucky, well read, amusing, likable and annoying at the same time- he likes his quotes too much. If one enjoys detective work with a distinct flavor of the previous century, then this book is a must read. If you enjoy mysteries, then this book offers you two mysteries in one.
