After escaping from Rengas Island, Jenn and Fortis set off to stop the Red Rider from completing his plan to rule the world. Meanwhile, Kalina must find a way to escape the Red Rider and avoid whatever terrible fate he plans for her. With information provided to them by Goldus and Futhark, Jenn and Fortis search for ancient and magical items to use in their quest. Their mission will bring them face to face with deadly assassins, bizarre creatures, murderous outlaws, and legends from the distant past. The pursuit of the Red Rider takes them from the Kylma Sea to the madness-inducing, nightmare-filled, unexplored reaches of the Labyrinthine Mire.
