Wisdom in Darkness, the first book in what will be the Wisdom Word Chronicles, begins in the village of Lofg in an unnumbered year in the history of the earth. Young Thom lives with his widowed mother in the spiritual shadow of his late father. He walks about the wild lands surrounding his village accompanied by his loyal wolfhound, Smoke. His father had been a fierce warrior in his people's battle with the Wolfherdsmen, but it seems as though Thom is destined for a life of hard work and obscurity. However, that future is altered forever when Thom encounters a strange traveler of great size and apparent wisdom in his barn. He joins Kalt and two other heroic companions-a fierce but gentle being named Jur and Rhea, a girl Thom's age who is devoted to the Living One. The Living One's teachings are contained in a hallowed item they all seek: the last copy of the Wisdom Word.

Thom faces great dangers and wonders never imagined in the world beyond his village, and he quickly learns that the future of humanity itself may well rest in the hands of this unlikely band of heroes.
