Commander Sam Campbell of the Chicago Police is fascinated by and innately proud of his African American heritage. So understandably, he is not best pleased when his holiday to the West Indies is brought to an abrupt end and he is forced to return to duty. It is only when he starts an investigation into a mysterious art crime that takes him on an unimaginable quest halfway across the world, does he uncover his other lineage, which is cloaked in a strange and powerful myth. Sam chases the perpetrator through the most ancient of Egyptian pyramids, and then across the world to one of the most revered Hindu temples of India, and uncovers a profound legacy embedded in the lost Native American City of Cahokia. He and his erstwhile companions are propelled into a perilous and potentially fatal world, where normal rules do not apply, and the landscape is awash with demons, evil spirits, demi-god soldiers and spirit wolves. Only then does he realise the responsibility that now awaits him, as the hideous dark forces of evil try to steal what is rightfully his.
