Annie Cooper's world is turned upside down when her husband Mitchell, is killed in an automobile accident, leaving her to raise her daughter Emma, on her own. As she struggles to come to terms with his death, she decides to escape to Hawaii for a winter vacation. Tim Adams is a Seattle police officer, working o a case involving a serial killer. Two bodies are found propped on a bench in a park, dressed up in wedding clothes. The case takes a surprising turn when another dead couple show up in Hawaii, prompting the FBI to ask Tim for assistance. He travels to the Big Island and runs into Annie, whom he dated in university. They explore the island together, with Emma and their relationship becomes serious until Tim is called back to the mainland. Their relationship struggles through tragedy and misunderstanding.
