The Bomb focuses on the infamous Haymarket affair, in which a bomb kills police gathered to club and maul labor protestors, and an incredibly unjust trial that later murders five anarchist leaders who had nothing to do with the bomb. The Bomb comes from the point of view of the uncaught bomb-thrower Schnaubelt, who escapes to Bavaria where he watches closely the events which follow in the wake of his action. Frank Harris (1855-1931) was a British editor, novelist, short story writer, journalist and publisher, who was friendly with many well-known figures of his day. Born in Ireland, he emigrated to America early in life, working in a variety of unskilled jobs before attending the University of Kansas to read law.
