Ma-Ka-Tai-Me-She-Kia-Kiak, the Sauk war leader known to the American settlers as Chief Black Hawk, fought and lost a war in 1832 as he tried to retake his homeland. The history books say his stolen remains were destroyed in an 1853 museum fire in Burlington, Iowa. The history books are wrong.
