Empire of Gold is the story of the Babylonian Captivity of the Jews. Jeremiah I covers the years 610 to 605 BC. The Babylonian Emperor Nabopolassar installs Necho II as pharaoh, taking the new pharaoh's daughter, Nitocris, hostage to be married to his son, Nebuchadnezzar. But Necho immediately betrays Babylon, ignoring the repercussions to his daughter and his entire family. The good king Josiah is killed in battle as he attempts to stop Pharaoh Necho from passing his lands. The prophet Jeremiah resigns from his post as Prophet to the King to pursue his true calling as Prophet to the Nations. Nebuchadnezzar saves Princess Nitocris from his father's wrath and in so doing, falls in love with her. But he is already promised the princess of Media, Amyhia, for his queen. Back in Judah, with Josiah gone, Judah returns to idolatry and Ezekiel and Daniel struggle growing up under the reigns of evil kings and Jeremiah begins a ministry of suffering and tears.
