In this deeply personal story of childhood development, the author takes readers along through her own journey of growing up with repeated sexual, physical, and mental abuse which resulted in a lesson that even the best life would have to include an abusive partner. The reader witnesses a girl searching for a sense of reason and fighting to keep a vision of hope while confronting her truth that she is being groomed and encouraged to take the role of abuse victim in her adult relationships - not only by the direct abusers, but also by the women around her who are aware of what is taking place. Learning to Take It calls out an often unspoken truth that Adult domestic violence does not start when a woman finds herself physically or otherwise abused by a spouse, but often much earlier when she is a child directly taught to compromise herself.
