Maria del Rosio Alfaro, better known to the media a Rosie Alfaro, is the first woman to be sentenced to death in Orange County. Her story is a tragic one, set in a town nearby Disneyland in Anaheim, California. By the time that Rosie was thirteen, she was heavily into drugs and considered by many to be an addict. At this age, Rosie was often doing fifty speedballs a day for weeks at a time, a speedball being a mixture of heroin and cocaine. Regular doses of this highly addictive cocktail were just the first steps along a dark path, and in grade seven she dropped out of school.
