Medical students have a variety of rich experiences. Yet, they often go undocumented, seen as afterthoughts on the way to developing one's career. In this short story, I attempt to describe the impact that one summer of research training has had on my ability to respond to the flurry of emotions that accompany mastering any new activity. Written for those interested in medicine, scientific inquiry, or the ability to overcome challenges within the context of a contemporary faith, A Fine Summer in Chicago is meant to illustrate the growth that can take place with a resilient spirit.
