Thoughts from a Father as His Daughter Enters College I was terrified when my daughter first entered Florida State University, and now she is about to be graduated. All parents are concerned about turning their precious, sheltered children loose in a strange setting. I can't remember my parents being anxious and nervous when as I entered college, but they were. The Florida State University is not any different than any other seat of higher learning. I wrote down my fears and anxieties to my daughter, Martha, and now I would like to share them with you. Some of these ideas may help you in your own Odyssey through life's challenges. The bird is out of the nest and must learn to fly. The values we parents try to instill into our children are our heritage, our investment in the future. These principles must be learned experien- tially by our children, as they test them and find out if they are true. We had to do the same thing.
