In 2042, the world as we know it came to an end in a nuclear firestorm. 150 years later, life is emerging from the ashes and destruction. Nature has reclaimed much of the Earth. In the northeast corner of what was the United States, a village of 800 people is living a hard but simple life, having lost nearly three centuries of technical skills and knowledge. But they are not alone. Footprints in the snow indicate that the village is being watched. Airships have landed in the woods. Human beings now share the planet with violent mutants. The town's survival now depends on the technology stored deep underground in a nuclear missile silo lying hidden beneath the town.
