Desperate to escape from his Provisional IRA past and in an attempt to eradicate the nightmares tearing at his soul, Fergal flees Ireland, trying to escape the clutches of the terrorist organisation. He was sucked in, initially with the misconception that he was fighting for a free Ireland, but gradually becoming aware of the brutality and cruelty meted out by his fellow terrorists. However once 'in' deciding not to continue was not an option; it was usually a person's free choice to 'sign up', but never that person's choice when they had had enough and wanted to leave. In Fergal's case, it was doubly difficult. There was too much in his background that prevented him making a clean break; dragged into many dubious situations and acquainted with too many of the wrong people through unfortunate circumstances. Meanwhile, the Republican terrorist group devised a strategy to achieve their goal of a united Irish nation by ingratiating one on their members within a British political organisation, ultimately rising to become British Prime Minister. With his superior's eyes off the ball Fergal manages to escape to America but he does not find freedom or release from his nightmares. There is a reckoning to be had, with violence and bloodshed dogging his steps. But now his troubles really begin, not only having to cope with his drinking problem, but doing his best to avoid the clutches of the FBI, the British Secret Service, and his old terrorist allies - all of them want information from him, but most want him eliminated, painfully! desmondobud@gmail.com
