This semi factual and semi-humorous book can be used as a last resort to pass your history final. But, if you still fail then you can, at least, have a few laughs. Excerpts: --While holed up in the Alamo, the brave defenders had to come up with creative ideas for food to break the monotony of garrison life. One soldier put a scoop of ice cream on top of a piece of apple pie and it caught on. A dessert called pie Alamo was born. --The public spirit, in the late 1920s, was carried upward on the wave of increasing stock prices. Everyone owned stock. Your cab driver or milkman would give you stock tips. Brokers gave customers stock that they could pay for later. Kids were buying stock with marbles that they had won from other kids on the street. Even pet dogs and cats had brokerage accounts. --In 1969, U. S. astronauts landed on the moon and took a few rocks back to earth. Ten years of effort, astronomical cost, and risk had been rewarded with a few rocks. A few rocks! They could have gotten that on the outskirts of Las Vegas and the astronauts would have had a lot more fun. Maybe they did. This is a book that can be read--New York Times Book Review A worthy addition to your library. It also makes a good doorstop--The Literary Digest No history library would be incomplete without this book-- American Heritage
