The Root and the Shoot
Kehinde Idowu
Lambe Adigun, a fifteen year old boy from a poor village, attempts to overcome the insecurities brought about by the hardships of his hand-to-mouth existence. These lead him to making choices that land him in trouble with the law and which hurt his family and especially his first love, Toke, who suffers most. Lambe is then faced with either learning a new way of life in the big city, away from his family, or turning his back on his values and the ones he cares about. The Root and the Shoot is a novel about growing up, self-discovery and a different and more meaningful approach to life within society.
