Historically, early Baptists in England used covenants as they organized as a congregation with common beliefs. This began approximately in the seventeenth century. These documents were signed by the founding members of a church, expressing their commitment to God, as well as to each other. Many early Baptists in America did the same.

Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama has continued in this practice.

Gathering as an independent congregation of believers since 1976, Sovereign Grace Baptist Church established a Church Covenant from its very beginning.

This book contains SGBC's Church Covenant, her doctrinal statement, as well as the Daily Bread Bible reading schedule from Robert Murray McCheyne and A Puritan Catechism from Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
