Days & Nights by the Red Sea
MR D Dundas
This is the story of a remote beach in Saudi Arabia told by a cocky but unreliable 23 year old who a year earlier was struck down by polio and dreamed, while in an iron lung, he was swimming in the Red Sea. He tells of a small motley group of US, Brit and Korean expats who went down a 6000ft escarpment over a twelve-year period (70's and early 80's) to camp and to spear fish. It is the real deal, not a TV setup, telling it how it was from their perspective, stupidities and all, and what it led to. The Red Sea becomes the main character: a sea of surprises, with a long prehistory, told in 87 short chapters, against an increasingly military backdrop. Each chapter heading gives a clue.
