Angeni was born mute and remained that way for the first twelve years of her life. Then one day a man was dragged into her Indian village. He had trespassed on Indian territory and would soon face Chief Soaring Eagle as a captured enemy. He was quick to introduce himself as Thomas Franklin and requested the opportunity to explain his reason for being there. Angeni watched from her teepee as the white man motioned to her to come to him. She was reluctant to become involved with his explanation to the chief, but her own father took her by the hand escorting her to Thomas Franklin who claimed he could help her. With one extraordinary prayer answered by the power of the Great Spirit, Angeni received her voice and thus began her connection to God and Pastor Thomas Franklin. The story follows Angeni from the age of twelve to her eighteenth birthday as she enters the world of the white man. Living in the town of Ashburn she meets her love interest Matthew Wilson, the son of a rancher. Things are never easy for them as they deal Matthew's father's prejudice and an Indian tribe that wants Angeni to return.
