One day I woke up. My marriage was over, I was dropping out of law school because I couldn't keep up, I lost my job, my house was being short-sold from foreclosure, my rental properties were gone, my credit was going downhill yet again, and friendships were hanging by a thread. What would I do? More importantly, how would I do anything? I had exhausted everything outside of myself, and if there was anything at all inside of me left, I had to go with that. Whatever I had left inside would only need to be the size of a mustard seed. I knew that as long as I could have that, as long as there was something to sow, something to plant, something to till, I could go on. I could make it grow into something great and something wonderful. I could start all over again and this time is the best. Re-inventing yourself is not easy to do, but for those who have leadership skills and survival skills that far outweigh their selfishness and ego, it is something that you become accustomed to doing; especially in tough economic times. Here are the lessons I learned, the guiding principles I keep in mind, and my mantras of daily living and conducting business.
