Lorraine had her daughter at 17 years old, moved out on her own and had only herself to rely on and no one around for any kind of guidance. It was no wonder she found so much care, comfort and self esteem in the arms of men. She also found a great deal of fun in alcohol and later many more kinds of drugs. This story starts off with her daughter Meredith, just turning 18 years old and finding her mother murdered. The story line moves forward in Meredith's life as she comes to terms with all the changes that are happening, trying to heal and find her place in the world. The story also retraces Lorraine's life so we can see the progression from where she started and the journey she took to where her life ended.
