Kate Darrow, a forensic accountant, wife and mother of three, is talked into joining the class that has given her best friend Ivy her "zing" back. The class in romance surprises Kate and so does Professor Miles Hawthorne's good looks, haughty manner, as well as his homework assignment to read the novel Rainier's Fury. Trying to get the assignment done on time, Kate must find ways to multi-task career and family as she's swept into the tale of Christabella Lockshire, a rich fun-loving spinster who runs away from an arranged marriage and into John Balfour's (Miles) arms. But real life and the novel both take an unexpected turn when Bill sees Kate and Miles together. Bill suspects his wife is up to something and is further convinced when he secretly reads the novel and becomes its hero Sir Richard Rainier who must rescue Christabella before it's too late.
