There is always the possibility of at least two extremes about money in the church. One extreme is that it is never discussed openly for fear that it will be offensive. This fear is defined as "chremataphobia," the fear of money. The other extreme is that money is all you talk about. I am not sure what this latter extreme would be called. Where these extremes come from is also a good guess. They certainly do not come from a thorough study and good understanding of all the Bible teaches, directly and indirectly, about money. Perhaps the pivotal word in gaining a good understanding is the word "all" the Bible teaches. Many times, we hang our thoughts and teachings about money on selected verses of scripture. While there is nothing wrong in dealing with one verse of scripture about money, it is wrong when we accept that one scripture as the "whole" counsel of God on money. Although we have not dealt with every scripture that has to do with money in the following pages, we have endeavored to raise an awareness level by discussing it under the four headings of the meaning, making, management, and means of money.
