This is the story of how the small community of Skerryvore came to be. It sits on top of the Precambrian Shield some of the oldest rock on the planet. This story could begin in 1615 where Samuel De Champlain did some of his exploring of the area. Fast forward to the late 1800s when Ole Hansen acquires two homesteader lots of just over 200acres. In the early 1900's Ms. Elizabeth Barker purchases the property from Hansen and builds the Skerryvore Hotel. Again fast forward to the late 1960's when Bert Taylor acquires the hotel and the property. Bert teamed up with Frank Robinson and through the use of checkerboard subdividing (now illegal) the "Ojibway Estates" was created, later to morph into being known as Skerryvore. The res is History
