Virginia, circa 1859, on the verge of the civil war in Bourbon County a black man accused of having raped the young miss Maryanne Banner, recently disappeared after the alleged rape, is being lynched in the town square. The odd two will investigate the content of the memoir, narrating the amazing life of a slave named Gordon, the suspicious suicide of Maryanne, the disappearing of Marcus Parcher, Odell good friend, eventually falling in love.
