Safe at Home
Domenic John Melillo
This collection of poems by Domenic Melillo is a journey. A journey from dreams and wishes, to reality and pain, then back home again. It is about family, friends, courage and failure, suffering, sorrow, loss, hopes and dreams, condemnation, conviction and redemption. Early poems begin with idyllic images of family and faith, then move to scenes of the past, visions of a bright tomorrow, and gratitude for the heritage of long ago and misty memories of days gone by. Then the verse flows into harsh realizations. Doubt, fear, weariness and devastation dominate. Images of self-condemnation, disappointment and loss become moving pictures of one man's journey back to the light as the sun comes out again and a new day dawns offering new hopes and dreams all built on a foundation of self-awareness, solid perspective and love.
