Diane is a lawyer who fights for the rights of children placed in foster care. She's determined to give them what she never had - a functional family. It's a tough job, but she loves advocacy. She understands what it feels like to be unwanted, or worse, desired solely because of what she could do for her parents. This dark time from her childhood still influences her adult life. Men want her, but their overtures are always motivated by what she can do for them. Nobody loves her for herself. Better to remain single than be used again. Dave hires Diane to help him retain custody of his foster son. He wants to adopt the little boy once Joey's parents' rights are terminated. Diane is an excellent advocate in court, but she is so gorgeous it distracts Dave to the point he considers replacing her several times. They can never have a relationship because of the many issues complicating his life. Plus, when his wife was alive he could never make her happy, and he doesn't want to bank his son's future on another beautiful woman who would eventually leave them. Better to raise his son alone. Their mutual love for Joey draws them together. Will it be enough to mend their wounded hearts?
