Carl Ernst August Franz von Bruguier, part of a Franco-German family of minor nobility of soldiers and government officials, left that life behind and came alone to America in 1862. After serving in the American Civil War as a hospital steward, he opened several drug stores in Newark, New Jersey as Francis Bruguier. This family history book tells the story of his life and background, starting with his grandparents and continuing down to his great grandchildren in the mid twentieth century.
