The Poetry and Prose of Alexander Smith
Hugh Parry
Alexander Smith (1829-67) was a mostly self-educated working man in Glasgow who caused a sensation with his first book of poetry. Later work, although of a very high standard, met with less acclaim, but he won new admirers when he turned to prose essays. This is a generous selection of extracts from his poetry, essays and travel writing which aims to revive interest in a neglected talent.
