Left in a church as an infant. Raised in an orphanage near Galway. Selling newspapers to support herself. It was not the most promising start in life but Molly was not complaining. She had a room, food, and enough clothes, and it bothered her not at all that other girls her age had so much more. A family seemed to her a wonderful thing, but she had none and accepted it without rancor or envy. Then a lawyer came to the boardinghouse one evening looking for a Miss Molly Belltower. He has papers for her to read. They are very official looking papers granting her title to an estate in Scotland. There is no question of mistake or fraud. The estate, with its sizable income, is hers, no doubt of that. What is very strange is that it has been hers from the day of her birth! It's a beautiful property high on the western Scottish coast. There is a fine manor, a cottage for the caretaker and his wife, a large barn, with an attached stable housing a splendid mare and a placid donkey. There is also a ruined tower reputed to date back more than a thousand years. One minor drawback: nothing electrical works on Lindaloch estate. Another is the reputation of the past mistresses of Lindaloch. Folks in the area refer to the land around Lindaloch House as the Witches' Circle. Molly finds this amusing at first. Then she starts to notice little things about herself...
