This most enjoyable Memoir was written from the heart. It encompasses the author's life from birth until retirement to sunny Spain at the age of 73. Born in 1928, during difficult times in the East End of London, to a hard-working mother but fickle father, both Jewish, Eric soon learned `to fit in´. With his naturally cheery nature, he made the most of some awkward situations, none more so than the Second World War arriving in 1939. Evacuation with his two sisters, and separation, followed. Eric enjoyed learning, and overcame the efforts of a nasty bully teacher to browbeat him. Quick to learn, he was always second top in class (losing the favoured spot to his first sweetheart...) With no guidance - no careers offices then - and no father to steer him the right way, he worked hard in various positions until the King's Army claimed him for two years. Invaluable experience of being abroad in a broken and demoralised Germany and Vienna followed. Read and smile about Eric's many adventures while in khaki...of his demobilisation, his japes with friends back in the UK, and of his meeting with the love of his life: his wife Joy. Becoming a father three times over, he enjoyed a role his father never did and experienced much happiness seeing his three sons grow and flourish; and during his long and happy marriage.
