Written buy a Grandfather and illustrated by his Grandson - Dad, I Want a Pet is a very humorous story about a young boy who learns a very valuable lesson about growing up. The main character, while named Thomas, could be any child, boy or girl. This is not only a very child-friendly read, it is also a great parenting book. It is a story every parent will easily relate too, and will at some point in their life, almost guaranteed, find it a very valuable story to read to their young children. The boy would love to get a pet. His father continuously tells him 'No, ' using every excuse he can dream up. The boy asks for both traditional and not so traditional pets and does not realize that the way he behaves, when told no, is the real issue in his father's eyes. At the end of the book, the reader should ask "Why did Thomas' Father change his mind?" The illustrations are in black and white and simply depict how the illustrator interpreted the story. There are also no backgrounds. This will allow the reader to depict in their own mind where the story is taking place. (Possibly your own home?
