The Georgia 57th Infantry Regiment was originally the 2nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry, State Troops under the command of Col. William Barkaloo. They were first designated as the 54th Georgia Confederate Infantry Regiment and in early 1863 redesignated as the 57th Georgia Confederate Infantry Regiment. The 57th fought in the Army of Tennessee. They were captured at Vicksburg and after exchange participated in the Atlanta Campaign, Nashville, and Franklin, surrendering at Bentonville, NC.
