There will be about 84 million senior U. S. citizens in 2050. That will occur within 35 year because people who are aged 65 have been already born. The future seniors should have started making plans for retirement many years before the present year. This book addresses what we know now about retirement prospects and what could be expected as new seniors arrive. What is certain is that the future will differ from the past because everything we know now suggests that the affordability of retirement will decline in the years to come. The future for retired seniors is not promising. The average U. S. household has virtually no retirement savings at present. The GNP that would fund making investment for the future is not climbing at prior rates. The national debt is rising rapidly. The government deficit is increasing. The U. S. workforce is getting smaller. The worth of the dollar is depreciating. Most importantly, the longevity of seniors will be increasing, with the possibility that we may see more 100+ year-old people than ever before. We can expect leaps in longevity gains the next 35 years largely as result of substantial reductions of cancer. We have assembled indicators about what can be expected in a more difficult future.
