Years ago, a murder was committed in the graveyard of the Church of St Peters and St Paul's in Ormskirk. The Church contained the grave of Orme, a ninth century Viking who on his death bed was said to have buried a vast treasure. A treasure which has never been found. On the anniversary of the night of the murder, the wealthy but eccentric Sir Henry Mortimer decided to hold a séance in the graveyard to contact the spirit of the dead Viking and find out where precisely he buried his treasure. But then the clock strikes midnight, the fog swirls, the séance begins and shortly afterwards Sir Henry is found dead with a knife wound to the chest. After all these years, can Inspector McGowan still solve the case?
