The ruling son wanted her as his wife. But she did not feel that she was allowed to make a choice for herself. Conflicted by her desire to both choose love and be loved, she ran away and hoped he would and would not follow. She wanted him to feel what it would be like to lose, to be unable to decide his fate as he expected her to simply accept what he decided for her. Yet she really did want his love. In her wild show of control she instead meets with ruin and when she sees him again she knows that love does not need to be equal to be real. To be loved is a kind of power, just as having the power to choose a wife is still real love. But in learning this truth by denying it, she endangers both their lives.
