Tragedy on the Buffalo chronicles the colorful early history of the Browns of Arkansas. The story begins with the arrival in Canada of Gaston Ezell, a young adventurer from Normandy, France, who survives the conflict between the British and the French in the French and Indian War and lives to explore and settle with his Shawnee bride in the New World. The story continues as each succeeding generation works the land, always seeking a better life, until they settle at last in the beautiful Buffalo River country of Arkansas. Along the way the family struggles to survive the tragedies and enjoy the triumphs of life during formative times in our nation's history.
