Duncan McGilliosa is a former Glasgow Celtic FC star who retired at the peak of his career to return to his family's croft in the Highlands. Years later, the club director who married Duncan's fiancee wants to buy the land used by Duncan and the other crofters. So Duncan decides to save the crofts by starting a raggle-taggle football team and chasing prize-money. The only problem is the volatile mix of players, from rugged Highlanders, to traumatised soldiers returning from World War 1 to a group of shipwrecked German troops. It's a quest that takes Duncan back to Celtic Park and into the arms of his long-lost love.
