Something is very wrong with Solomon. During a practice sword-fighting tournament, he erupts into an uncontrolled rage and attacks the biggest bully in school. Then a weird, moving black tattoo appears on his palm. Sometimes it takes over him, urging him to lash out in anger, but he can't seem to remove it. Solomon tries to avoid any further confrontation, but the bullies are hunting him, intent upon payback. Along with his friends Laurel, the smitten dreamer, and Freder, the apprehensive hero, Solomon flees from the bullies and finds himself lost in an eerie forest on the outskirts of town. There, the three friends stumble across long-hidden secrets and learn that their small village faces certain destruction from an army of creatures known only as the Sowers. In order to save their hometown, Solomon and his friends reluctantly set out on a fantastical journey to intercept the mysterious invaders and plead for their own survival. And along the way, Solomon discovers more about the strange marks that are slowly taking him over. Doing right is rarely easy.
