A Village of Poetry People
Maureen Higson
When I attempt to describe the poetry of Maureen Higson, the first thing that comes to my mind is that she epitomizes the difference between a poet and someone who writes poetry. What is the difference; you may ask? It is the difference between someone who draws buildings and an architect, the difference between a man holding a knife and a surgeon; it is the difference between someone with a fiddle and a virtuoso. In short, it is the difference between someone with inspiration and someone with inspiration and a polished understanding of their craft earned over years of toil. And did I mention she is hilarious? Her words sing of wisdom, of common sense, of compassion, but most of all they just sing. And that is the difference between a craftsman and an artist. Come see for yourself; become engrossed in another world for a while. I promise the old one will be anxiously waiting when you're done.
