Sportsmen, those among us who enjoy hunting and fishing, are following ageless traditions, but get scant respect from members of society who have lost touch with nature and do not understand the finely tuned balance among species of the world. Sportsmen are not atavistic creatures roaming the open fields, forests, and waterways with bloodlust in their hearts and conquest on their minds. While hunting or fishing, sportsmen are interacting with nature in the most basic of ways - gathering of foodstuffs as has been the quest of man for millennia. Sportsmen respect and protect the environment as few others in modern society; they thrive in the delicate balance of all things natural. Hunting and fishing are times for peaceful contemplation in a sometimes chaotic world, a time to connect with the spiritual forces at work in the wild. The poems collected here are one sportsman's recollections of the rituals, dreams and events of days and nights in the fields, streams, forests, seas, boats and blinds.
