The Misogynistic Marquis, or Love With All Due Respect is an homage to Georgette Heyer, whose language and characters I fell in love with many years ago. It tells the story of Miranda Harcourt, a woman of independent spirit and independent means. Her unusual state of freedom suits her well: content with family and friends, she sees no need to follow the dictates of Society and marry. Rather, she intends to live her life in a manner that aligns more closely with the feminist writings of Mary Wollstonecraft. A chance brush with a man on a moonlit balcony upsets her plans, however. He is in many ways the antithesis of the kind of man Wollstonecraft might have recommended, but over the course of the book, Miranda changes the Marquis' misogynistic mindset, and he, in turn, helps her find a passionate love. The Misogynistic Marquis, or Love With All Due Respect is written for those of us who feel disappointed when strong women in romances capitulate. It is written for those of us who think that Jo March would have been better off with Laurie than with Professor Bhaer who, lovely though he was in some ways, was a father figure, critiquing her writing and guiding her morally.
