'An American Odyssey' tells of the lie and loves of Martha Jane Fairfax from the time when she arrived with her parents and siblings in America in 1885 Setting off for California her family are slaughtered and she is abducted by a Sioux Brave who became the love of her life. The book is made up of seven books within the whole each being of a man in he life at that time. Eventually she does find true love but it is short lied and on the death of her husband now being a very rich woman she fulfils her father's dream and buys a vineyard in California; here she makes a home for her children and step-children and the coming together of all her family. Reaching her 70th year she decides to take a holiday to the Old Country. I will not spoil the end for you but she dies happily going into the arms of her one true love her Sioux Brave.
