This comprehensive history of railways in the French département of Jura covers a period of more than 150 years, from the first steam trains to the arrival of the TGV. The subjects also include an account of the construction and operation of the Transjuralpin international line to Switzerland, the rapid expansion of the rail network in the late nineteenth century is explained, and a chapter is devoted to the famous viaducts and tunnels between Andelot - Morez - St. Claude (Ligne des Hirondelles). There are studies of the narrow gauge lines: the extensive network of the Chemins de Fer Vicinaux du Jura; the Andelot - Levier railway; and the Morez - Nyon tramway, part of which remains open.
