Not really notorious, but always victorious, the Galaxy's best. They had many secrets, kept them close to their chest." In the 23rd Century, Lisa was singing new original verses to herself about her bosses, happy to be working for them. She was telepathic. The Carters were all experts. His Dad was a Civil Engineer, who designed and built dams and power plants. The very young Tom wanted to be a Locomotive Engineer. When in grade school, he made and flew small, rubber band powered, balsa stick and tissue paper airplanes. From then on, he wanted to fly. In high school, several teachers taught him a lot of math, science, and even aerodynamics. He became interested enough to listen to them. Later and much later, Tom remembered and appreciated them and often used what they had taught him. At the time, it was basketball, football and learning to be a pilot. Tom took Flying Lessons and got Student, Private, and Flight Instructor licenses as soon as he was old enough. When at the University, he majored in Aeronautical Engineering and was a Flight Instructor for the Department, teaching students to fly. He was beginning his fourth year at the University, when the Draft started taking farmers and college students. Tom was both. His local Draft Board members were, or had also been, both. They gave Tom a deferment for several mouths. He applied and was waiting for a class assignment along with many others. When his deferment ran out, he enlisted and served in an Air Police Squadron. In Aviation Cadet training to become a Bomber Pilot, his Commanding Officer announced one day to their entire class, that they were all "Volunteering" to be Jet Fighter Pilots. The height limit for Jet Fighter Pilots had been six feet. Tom was six feet four inches tall. The President had been under a lot of pressure to launch a Pre-emptive Strike against Russia while we still had (presumably) more Atomic bombs than they did. No. He said, we will protect our cities. I think the Russians will do the same thing. He was right. We have avoided World War III for over sixty years. Tom was in the right place at the right time!
