An unconventional World War II Memoir containing letters, illustrations, poems and other items pertaining to the author's maternal family's experiences in the European Theatre and on the home front. Hans Gottlieb was a 40-year-old college professor when he enlisted and was assigned to the Office of War Information. As a German-American who spoke and wrote German, he was involved in debriefing Nazi prisoners and composing Allied intelligence reports. Gottlieb served with distinction, and worked with W. H. Auden and Rensis Likert, among others. The memoir also includes discussion of leafleting campaigns.
