Dreamriver: an Immigrant to Alaska Born in Pre-war Germany
Melitta Buchanan
This autobiography is the life story of an immigrant to Alaska who was born in pre-war Germany. She experienced, unscathed, not only the twelve years of Nazi-regime but also five years of Communist rule in East Germany, from where she escaped in 1950 to find freedom ?in the West?. After eleven turbulent years of meaningful coincidences and fortunate synchronicities she found her place to settle in Anchorage, Alaska. There she raised with her husband their two children and lead a life of fulfillment. A strange dream kept her upright and hopeful during difficult times. She had dreamt - after a most shocking personal experience ? of a peaceful place next to a mountain stream, much like the place in Alaska she has called home for fifty years. Pertinent photographs, documents, and maps accompany the text.
