Only five years old, Saria has always wanted to learn to hunt, to help provide food for her simple peasant family living in Castle Town. But one trip into the forest changes her life. When she is eighteen, the snobby Prince William, son of King Edmund and Queen Abigale, is kidnapped by a huge black dragon during his eighteenth birthday celebration. Saria grudgingly understands she's the only one who stands a chance of rescuing him with her unusual wolf powers.

For the sake of her kingdom, she embarks on a harrowing journey into griffin-infested wilderness, gets lost in dwarven mines, and is led astray by evil unicorns just to save a man she hates. As she risks her own life several times throughout the mission, Saria wonders if she will be able to save William, or if she will be too late?
