West of Boston is a three part novel that takes place in the Northwestern United States and Canada during the late 1950s. The central character, David Fitzgerald, is a naïve, sheltered 18-year-old young man from Boston who travels to the Northwest in search of adventure. He becomes involved in events that are sometimes comical, sometimes romantic, and at other times sobering - even life threatening. He is thus propelled into maturity and manhood over a five-year period. Seasoned with contemporary ranch life of Montana and Alberta, the major parts of West of Boston take place in the wilderness of British Columbia. All the characters and story plots are fictional though realistic with solid family values.
