"Just Like Home" is a continuation of the authors previous novel "Just Like Me" in which a , loving close knit Irish family is separated at the start of the Great Irish Famine of 1845-1848. The son and daughter are sent to America and there separated as the son joins the American Army at the start of the Mexican American War and eventually joins the deserters who form the San Patricio Battalion in the Mexican Army. "Just Like Home" follows the lives of the family members as they learn to live in the hostile environments in which find themselves, all the while searching to find each other and a place, "Just Like Home" The novel recreates the environments in Ireland during the famine as well as the struggles of immigrants in a new land, the United States and describes the conditions found in the late 1840's.
